It is undeniable, environmental issues become an interesting topic to discuss because it is a common problem almost all over the world. One of the causes of environmental problems is the amount of waste, especially from production. Based on this background, AIChE ITS SC held an event entitled Environmental Issue Webinar (EIW) as a forum to introduce and treat industrial waste for students with the theme “How to Create a Sustainable Environment?” By holding this event, it is expected to increase the knowledge and insight of the participants about technology and research that applies new and up-to-date knowledge.
The Environmental Issue Webinar (EIW) was held on 27 November 2021 through Zoom Online Platform with the discussion content “How to Create a Sustainable Environment?” This webinar invited speakers from abroad. The first speaker was Professor Dr. Satoshi Nakai from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Hiroshima University, Japan, with a material entitled “Use of Waste Building Materials”. The second speaker was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sabiha Hanim Binti Saleh from the School of Chemistry and Environment, UiTM Shah Alam, Malaysia, delivered a material entitled “The Process of Conversion of Lignocellulosic Biomass into Fuel and Chemistry”.
In this webinar, the participants understand the definition of industrial waste and sustainable environment, why industrial waste must be recycled to create a sustainable environment, how industrial waste processing is used as raw material for a sustainable environment product, and the urgency of increasing awareness about industrial waste treatment. The activity contained explanations of resource persons, interactive questions and answers, quizzes with prizes, and certificates for all participants. This webinar was attended by more than 50 participants from various universities.
