The field of chemical engineering is in constant evolution, and access to information technology is changing the way chemical engineering problems are addressed. Inspired by the need for a user-friendly chemical engineering text that demonstrates the real-world applicability of different computer programs, Introduction to Software for Chemical Engineers acquaints readers with the capabilities of various general-purpose, mathematical, process modeling and simulation, optimization, and specialized software packages while explaining how to use the software to solve typical problems in fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, etc. we want to provide our participants to learn and understand the software that they will use as a Chemical Engineer in the future.
On October 3rd, 2020, AIChE ITS Student Chapter’s Professional Development Department organized a software training Webinar with Dr.Rendra Panca Anugraha, S.T. as our speaker. Currently, he is a lecturer at the Chemical Engineering Department in ITS and also was a software trainer in ITS, UISI, PT.FTSI etc. This is why we chose to hold the event “Upgrading Through Visio” to educate the participants about the usage of Chemical Engineer software such as Microsoft Visio and to share the basic step to use the software.
The discussion was held online with our main topic about “Upgrading Through Visio“.
It was attended by 101 participants from universities all across Indonesia. The main topic discussed in this event was the main purpose of using Microsoft Visio and how to use it.
this software training webinar explains Microsoft Visio into 3 main topics which are the basic operation of using Microsoft Visio, how to make the basic design of PFD & PID and equipment. The basic operation is including:
-How to choose a shape and put it in the drawing sheet
-How to shape formatting(size,colour,outline,effect)
-How to add line/connectors
-How to line/connectors formatting(size,style,thickness)
-How to group/ungrouping
-how to export files to JPG or PNG
PFD(process flow diagram) is a diagram commonly used in chemical and process engineering to indicate the general flow of plant processes and equipment and PID(piping & Instrument diagram) is a detailed diagram in the process industry which shows the piping and the process equipment together with the instrumentation and control devices. The function of PFD is to display the relationship between major equipment of plant facility and does not show minor details such as piping details and designations and the function of PID is playing a significant role in the maintenance and modification of the process initial build. In this training also learn how to make PFD & PID in Microsoft Visio. The last topic is the basic design equipment that involves the design concept, the basic shape that is commonly used, and the trimming method.
